Book Your Free Taster Day
Choosing the right day care centre is an important decision. We want families to feel comfortable, confident and fully informed before joining us. That is why we offer a free taster day for every new visitor.

It gives adults the chance to experience a typical day at Edmund Street Activity Centre and helps families see how we support the people in our care. Our taster days are relaxed, friendly and tailored to each individual. We take the time to understand a person's needs and interests so we can make the experience enjoyable from start to finish.
How to Book a Free Taster Day
Booking a taster day is simple. We welcome enquiries from families, carers, Social Services and support workers.
Contact our team
Call us or complete our taster day enquiry form. We will ask a few basic questions about the individual and arrange a suitable date.
Visit the centre
You are welcome to come and look around before the taster day. Many families find this helpful and reassuring.
Attend the taster day
The individual will join us for a typical day at the centre. Our team will offer full support and make sure they feel welcome from the moment they arrive.
Review and plan next steps
After the taster day, we will talk through how things went and discuss the best support route going forward.
Referral Routes
Self-Referral
Families, carers or the individual themselves can contact us directly. This is a quick and simple way to start the process.
Social Services Referral
We work closely with Social Services across the region. Care professionals can refer individuals to us as part of a wider support plan.
Whichever route you choose, our team will guide you through every step and make the process as clear as possible.
What to Expect on a Taster Day
A taster day is a chance to experience real life at Edmund Street Activity Centre. The day is structured, friendly and relaxed. Our staff will support the individual throughout the visit to make sure they enjoy their time with us.
We encourage families and carers to discuss any preferences, needs or worries beforehand so we can make the day as smooth and positive as possible.
What to Bring
Most people only need a few simple items. We usually recommend:
A BIG SMILE!
Any personal medication (clearly labelled)
A coat or appropriate outdoor clothing
A small bag with any essential personal items
We keep things simple and stress-free. If you are unsure, our team will tell you exactly what is needed for the day.
What a Day at Edmund Street Looks Like
A taster day follows the same structure as a typical day at the centre. This gives people a real feel for what everyday life with us is like.
Mornings at Edmund Street AC
The day begins with a warm welcome, breakfast and a hot drink. Mornings often include arts and crafts, gentle exercise, games or time spent in our sensory and reminiscence rooms. These sessions are calm and enjoyable, helping people build confidence at a pace that feels right for them.
Lunch at Edmund Street AC
Lunch is cooked fresh in our own kitchen and served as a home-style, two-course meal. Good food plays a big part in wellbeing, so we make sure every visitor enjoys a nutritious and comforting lunch. Drinks and snacks are available throughout the day.
Afternoons at Edmund Street AC
Afternoons offer a mix of group activities, music, social time and daily living skills sessions. Some days we head out into the community for walks or park visits. These outings help people enjoy new experiences and gain confidence outside of the centre.
